WhereToEatNow

Editorial policy

The short version: we pay for our own meals, we accept nothing from restaurants, and no one can buy a review or a position in the ranking.

We pay for what we eat

Every meal behind a review on this site is paid for at the normal price, like any other customer. We do not accept free meals, discounts, hosted stays, press dinners or gifts from restaurants, PR agencies or tourism boards.

This matters because it is the only thing that makes a negative sentence possible. A guide that eats for free cannot credibly tell you a dish was not worth the money.

No paid placement, ever

No restaurant on this site has paid to be included, to be ranked higher, or to have a criticism removed. There is no mechanism to do so, and offers to do so are declined.

If that ever changes — if a piece of content is sponsored, produced in partnership, or contains an affiliate link that earns us money — it will be labelled clearly at the top of that specific page, in plain language, before you read it.

Advertising

This site carries third-party display advertising in order to fund the reviewing. Advertisers have no involvement in, sight of, or influence over editorial content. Ad slots are sold programmatically, which means neither we nor the restaurants choose which advertiser appears next to which review.

Advertising is kept visually distinct from editorial content and is never presented as a recommendation.

Ratings and what they mean

Each review carries a single rating from our own reviewer, out of five. It is one critic’s judgement of that meal and that restaurant, not an average of anyone else’s.

We deliberately do not publish an aggregate "user rating", because this site does not collect user ratings. Presenting numbers gathered elsewhere as though readers had submitted them here would be dishonest, and Google’s own structured-data guidelines forbid it.

Corrections

Factual errors are corrected as soon as they are reported and verified. Where a correction changes the substance of a review, it is noted on the page rather than made silently.

Restaurants are welcome to point out errors of fact. They are not able to have opinions removed.
