What this site is
A ranked, opinionated guide to eating in Lisbon: sixty restaurants, cafés, tascas and pastelarias reviewed at length, plus longer guides to French bakeries in the city and to eating across ten Portuguese regions beyond the capital.
Every review is written specifically for this site. Nothing here is syndicated, scraped, spun from another publication, or reprinted from a press release. Where we have not eaten somewhere ourselves, we say so on the page rather than implying otherwise — the regional guide, for example, is explicitly labelled as an editorial shortlist rather than first-hand criticism, and it carries no ratings for that reason.
How places get on the list
By being worth eating at. There is no paid placement, no affiliate arrangement with any restaurant, and no way to buy an entry or a better position in the ranking. Restaurants are not told in advance that they are being reviewed and are not shown copy before it is published.
The ranking is editorial. It weighs how good the cooking is, whether the price is honest for what arrives, and whether we would send a friend there without adding a caveat. It changes when the restaurants change.
What we get wrong
Restaurants change chefs, raise prices, drop dishes and close. Opening hours in particular go out of date faster than anything else on a page. Where a detail has not been checked recently, the structured data on that page omits it rather than publishing a stale claim, and every regional entry links out to a map and to TripAdvisor so you can confirm current hours at a source that maintains them.
If something here is wrong, tell us and it gets corrected. Corrections are made on the page itself rather than quietly deleted.
Languages
The guide is published in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. The English is the original: reviews are written in English first and then translated. Translations are reviewed for register — the Portuguese edition is European Portuguese, the Spanish is peninsular — but the underlying judgement, the prices and the criticism are the same in every language. Nothing is softened for one audience and sharpened for another.
