WhereToEatNow Review
Everyone in Lisbon has an opinion about where to eat shellfish, and most of those opinions eventually arrive at Ramiro. Marisqueira Uma is the answer for the evenings when you want the same thing without surrendering two hours of your life to a pavement queue.
The format is identical and correct: a display of live shellfish near the door, a menu you order by weight, cold beer, paper on the tables, and staff who have done this for years and will tell you plainly what is best tonight. The tiger prawns are the benchmark and they are excellent — sweet, properly seasoned, cooked to the second. Clams bulhão pato are done with a generous hand on the garlic and coriander. Percebes when they are in. And, in the correct tradition, a prego to finish, because a seafood dinner in Lisbon that does not end with a steak sandwich has not really ended.
Budget similarly to the famous places — this is not a cheap category anywhere — but you will be seated faster and the room is calmer, which for many people is worth more than the name on the door.
Honest notes: the by-weight pricing means the bill depends entirely on what you order, and shellfish adds up fast; ask prices before pointing. The room is plain and brightly lit, with no atmosphere to speak of. Service is efficient rather than warm. Come for the seafood, which is the only reason anyone comes to a marisqueira, and it delivers as well as the more famous alternative.
