Pistola y Corazón is small, extremely loud, plays music at a volume that makes conversation a negotiation, and does not take bookings. It is also the best taqueria in Lisbon, so everyone puts up with all of it.
The fundamentals are right, which is where most European Mexican restaurants fail. The tortillas are corn and made properly, so they hold up rather than disintegrating. The fillings are cooked with actual technique — the slow-cooked pork is genuinely good, the fish taco is fresh and sharply dressed, and the salsas have heat and acidity rather than just sweetness. Order more tacos than feels dignified; they are small.
The drinks list is the other half of the appeal. There is a serious mezcal and tequila selection, and the staff will talk you through it if you show any interest at all. Margaritas are made with fresh lime and no shortcuts. This is a place that turns into a bar as the evening goes on and does not pretend otherwise.
Honest notes: no reservations plus a tiny room means queuing, especially at weekends — go early or late. The noise is not incidental, it is the house style, so this is a terrible choice for a quiet catch-up or anyone hard of hearing. Prices are higher than street tacos anywhere in Mexico, which is the usual complaint and the usual answer applies: you are in Lisbon. For what it is, it is excellent and completely committed.
